Rappers who are not gangsters

However, adding a little bit of lemon to your water can promote clear, healthy singing, because it’s a natural mucolytic, which helps your body produce thin mucus.

Cyrus started the sexually (and psychedelically?) charged performance with her song “We Can’t Stop” and was joined onstage by Thicke to perform his song “Blurred Lines,” the video for which featured nude models walking around a studio. During this televised barrage of near-nude twerking and tongue-flashing, apparently a record-setting 306,000 tweets were being published every minute.

Creating a string arrangement is the most powerful way to make a piece of music soar. Whether adding an epic string part to your latest pop song or composing for a classical quartet, there’s so much you can do with these dynamic instruments.

MTV helped break punk in the ’80s, ’90s, and continued through the ’00s with so many alt-rock bands that have become classic simply by virtue of their televised videos. Regardless of what the content of MTV has become of late, we still have a lot to be thankful for in the past.

Thinking about their target listener, Fall Out Boy was successfully able to balance an aesthetic of youthful rebellion with a sound that was immediately comforting. That’s one reason The Phoenix New Times said this song “might just be the most listened-to emo track of all time.”

Grants for band trips

Let’s get a little more serious now. Finnish composer Kaveli Aho’s concerto for solo theremin and chamber orchestra (recording released in 2014, piece written a few years earlier), performed here by theremin all-star Carolina Eyck is an eight-part homage to Lapland, the most northerly region of Finland. Based on the eight-season division of the year, which is traditional for Lapland’s native Sami people, this work is dense with expressionistic harmony and icy, shimmering textures. It’s great, too, to hear the theremin being explored in all its range — often we only hear the middle and higher registers. In this piece, there are moments when the theremin takes on the sounds of other instruments, like the Chinese erhu or the viola, but also moments when it flutters like a bird. This piece is a real treat and a welcome introduction to the expansive oeuvre of Kaveli Aho.

The 1% skim milk of the music industry has survived the barbarians at the gate, born again within the world of music streaming. In 2019, the listener pays only a little more for the convenience of streaming, but the money they do pay is vacuumed up by large tech and labels via the gated publishing communities like Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play. Artists still struggle, as the innovations of tech revolutionaries were co-opted and sanitized by corporate interest.

If things went according to plan, you probably made new friends and fans over the course of the tour. Now that you’re home, you’re noticing a bump in your social following and you have new people asking when you’re coming back to their town.

John Belushi struck up a relationship with Fear after becoming a quick fan seeing them on another TV show and commissioned them to write a song for the movie Neighbors. The band, however, wrote the song for Belushi himself to sing, which he recorded reluctantly. The movie’s producers refused to use it, but Belushi still wanted to do right by Fear, so he booked them on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest for the Halloween Special in 1981.

The first in our two-course series exclusively focused on mixing, Faders Up I: Modern Mix Techniques takes a macro-lens approach to the mix process, so you’ll get a well-rounded knowledge of every basic parameter used to create professional-sounding audio tracks, including referencing, panning, routing, signal flow, EQ, compression, reverb, and much more. If you learned how to tune your guitar to itself when you first started learning the guitar, you’ll remember that the note in Fret 5 corresponds to the note of the open string on the next string down. The only exception is the 3rd string, where in order to get the same note as the 2nd string open, we need to play Fret 4. This is due to how the guitar is mostly tuned in intervals of a perfect fourth, except for the 2nd string, which is tuned a major third above the 3rd string (G to B is a major third).
