More and more musicians are choosing to build their own home studios and go it alone these days, as opposed to spending their money on only a few days in a professional studio per year or even less. And that’s great! More agency and self-sufficiency means more time spent honing one’s craft and exploring musical boundaries.
As mentioned before, Berg was looking to push these techniques to their limits — not only in terms of scope, but also intent. The trajectory of this orchestral inversion actually mirrors the trajectory of the story.
Music investors looking for talent 2018
At Soundfly, we care deeply about creating the most effective learning experience we can. For the past few years, we’ve been developing this mentorship alternative to the mentored-course model of our online courses with that exact goal in mind — building off research others have done around how people learn and what we’ve seen through our own experiments and experiences. But the question you may be wondering is: “Why?”
Therefore, in addition to providing a platform designed to operate around your own schedule, no matter your location, we’ve structured this program around six core elements that we think contribute to an effective learning experience that is both active and highly personalized:
“Finesse” (Remix): Cardi B drops herself into this remix in a relatively extended intro. There’s also a pre-chorus, as well as a fake-out bridge which I’m going to call a “pre-bridge” (P2). My favorite part of this section, this song, and maybe this entire study in general, is that just when you think the whole thing is going to be done over the three-chord loop of♭VI V i, they throw in a ♭vii to ♭III turnaround, or, for the functionally minded, a “ii V I” that resolves back to D♭. This tonal trick, as well as the extensions and voicings, are really typical of the era they’re harkening back to in the video. Super clever.
Now is a great time to mention that Soundfly is currently hard at work developing our own Mainstage course in scoring to picture, due to launch later this year. If you’re interested in being notified when the course launches, just sign up for our mailing list and you’ll be the first to know. In the mean time, we have loads of other online courses that might suit your interests, as well as a team of Soundfly Mentors experienced in composition and arranging!
“But Carter, you said E♭ major and C minor share a key signature and there is definitely a C minor chord in this song. Isn’t this song then in C minor?”

Focus: Work on making better hip-hop instrumentals to pitch to rappers and vocalists.
We asked five audio producers, engineers, and composers to tell us how they use Logic Pro specifically in their professional work. Check out their answers!
Another key metric you can measure is your follower growth over time. This is important because when listeners follow you, your new releases will automatically show up in their personalized Release Radar playlist. They’ll also get email notifications about shows you’re playing in their city.
While the basic idea of sectional form can be stretched pretty far, it’s not uncommon to hear songs with additional types of sections. Pre-verses, post-choruses, breakdowns, ad-libs — there are plenty of examples of alternate forms.
