As the company’s beautifully shot and edited video details, vinyl’s dramatic growth over the past 10 years is gravely hindered by a lack of pressing plants with the ability to fulfill the demand. Vinyl production today is expensive and time-consuming, slowing release times and often leaving artists with their backs against a wall.
The theremin and sci-fi are like two peas in a pod. Once the instrument became available to purchase, build, and learn on a somewhat wider scale, it was only a matter of time before it became the sound of the unknown in the world of sci-fi film scores. It sounds like a voice echoing out through space, like warbly electronic transmissions signaling an alien presence. Hermmann’s creative use of the instrument in this iconic score would go on to influence not only contemporary film composers like Danny Elfman, but also set the precedent for an entire genre of film which would blend score and sound design into one eery whole.

There’s something to be said for those memories and those feelings that we associate with cassettes. And for an emerging band looking to make their mark, release new music, and connect with their fans in a dynamic way (all while spending less than traditional CDs cost or merch would cost to manufacture), the cassette is the perfect option.
Close relationships in music are vital, and it’s quite common that you’ll end up where you want to go because of the people you know. So dust off those handy networking skills and go take your closest cohorts out for coffee! Keeping a musical relationship solid is hard work, especially when disagreements emerge — a good way to approach things is to prioritize empathy, logic, and patience over temporary rage or disappointment, which can easily lead to permanent damage.
As we can see, the scales which are used the most in the Western musical system (the ones commonly called Major and Minor scales) are the modes built on the first and sixth degrees of a Major scale.
Focus: Work on making better hip-hop instrumentals to pitch to rappers and vocalists.
That meant wading through lenders who asked for pay stubs and who freaked out when we didn’t have any, or even banks who weren’t interested in working with us at all. We did finally find a lender that was open minded and willing to work with us. It just took a lot of time and patience, and the underwriting process was long.
And yet, for the most part, it is a foreign way of thinking to our own: Much religious meaning in music today is practiced, and heard, as an all-encompassing, multi-faith spirituality rather than this Baroque-era sense that more specifically imagines “theology heard as sound.”

Krumhansl proposed that we’ve heard enough songs in major keys to be able to pick up on what songs in major do, and how they should sound. Just like when you watch enough spy movies, you can basically predict what’s supposed to happen in the spy movie you’re about to watch. Cui says, “I’m assuming that most people hearing ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ would know that it’s in major even though they might not know it’s called major.”
As one commenter pointed out, though, “Clair de Lune” is in 9/8, so of course it’s going to sound strange over a 4/4 beat. However, for me, the 4/4 beat actually makes it sound less strange. I find 9/8 totally unnatural; I can count it deliberately but I haven’t internalized it intuitively. On the other hand, groups of triplets over 4/4 is a common sound in the African-descended American music, and I can feel it just fine.
It turns out a lot of those Disney movies were scored by the same person, Alan Menken. Perhaps he was anticipating that this music would eventually lock inside his audience’s subconscious when he wrote it!
If you’re anything like me, your practice routine is something you do intuitively. It often involves sitting down with your instrument, playing a few scales, banging around for 20 minutes on a few songs or improvs, maybe working on something specific for 10 minutes in a repetitive manner, and then bowing out. Basically, it’s casual, repetitive, and thoughtless.

I tend to use a medium-to-fast release setting. I’ve heard a lot of famous mixers say they set the release with the tempo of the song. So they would watch the gain reduction needle and have it release on beat with the song. I try my best to use this method.

Dub music producers like King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry played the Space Echo almost as if it were its own instrument. On Augustus Pablo’s song “555 Dub Street,” Lee Perry uses the Space Echo on the melodica and turns what most consider a harsh, uninviting instrument into something lush and layered.
